Breaking: The Miami Heat are interested in signing an NBA free agent forward…

Expect the Miami Heat, as nearly every Eastern Conference candidate for a title is adding star power to their team.

The New York Knicks added talented forward Mikal Bridges, the Boston Celtics, the defending champions, and the Philadelphia 76ers are the team that Paul George is most likely to sign with. The Sixers will almost certainly lose forward Tobias Harris to free agency if they acquire George. The Heat could need some more scoring in the forward room, which is why Dan Favale of Bleacher Report listed Harris as their top free agent target.

“There’s no way in hell that Harris’s value has dropped to the point where a minimum deal is acceptable. However, Favale noted, “Maybe Miami can pitch him on a somewhat prominent role and the opportunity to rehab his longer-haul value.” “Failing that, if he’s willing to sign for the mini MLE, the Heat have avenues they can explore to ensure it’s available.”

Moving Forward After Caleb Martin and Kevin Love turned down their option, the front management in Miami was faced with a difficult choice. Harris is not available if they decide to try to get Martin back on a long-term contract. Despite shooting 48.7 percent last season and averaging 17.2 points and 6.5 rebounds, the 31-year-old disappeared during the postseason.

The good news for the Heat is that their lack of availability is actually their biggest problem rather than their NBA playoff performance. Harris fits the mould the Heat need, having played in more than 60 games in each of the previous five seasons.
