Toronto Blue Jays’ fans call for manager John Schneider to be ‘fired’ after ‘insane’ decision in MLB playoff loss..
Schneider, who became manager of the Blue Jays last July, pulled Berríos in Game 2 of their American League Wild Card Series after throwing just 47 pitches.
Berríos had kept the Twins – his former team – scoreless but allowed a leadoff walk to start the fourth inning.
At that moment, Schneider decided it was time to switch it up and called the bullpen.
Infielder Whit Merrifield ripped his coach’s decision.
After the game, Merrifield reportedly told Sports Illustrated, “I hated it, honestly.”
“It’s not what cost us the game, but it’s the kind of baseball decisions that are taking away from managers and baseball, at this stage of the game.”
The Blue Jays’ Yusei Kikuchi joined the game, but everything went wrong for the Canadian team.
Carlos Correa knocked home the first run of the game with an RBI single after the Japanese pitcher let the next three runners reach base.
