DEAL DONE: Braves finalizes yet another Blockboster trade with a very young amazing star…

Braves sign first round pick Cam Caminiti

High school baseball: MLB Draft prospect Cam Caminiti strikes out 16, throws no-hitter over five innings

Cam Caminiti was selected by the Atlanta Braves in the first round. Jim Callis of MLB Pipeline reports that Caminiti is signing for exactly the slot value, which means the Braves will have money left over to target some elite prep talent in later rounds. This is in contrast to the popular belief that Caminiti would demand an over-slot signing bonus.

The Braves have selected Caminiti, the best prep arm in the 2024 MLB draft, with the surprising expectation that he will be available to Atlanta at the age of 24. The LSU commit was quickly acquired by the Braves, and considering his talent, it was a relative steal. Still, the move was undoubtedly going to be costly. Caminiti, who reclassified from the 2025 class at the age of 17 in order to begin his professional career early, comes into Atlanta’s system as one of the top prospects right away. Although many believe Caminiti might increase his velocity, his fastball has already reached 97 mph, and his changeup is advanced for a player his age. Caminiti’s primary worry has been his sense of spin, and even if his curveball and slider improved this season, the Braves’ excellent pitching development will still need improvement.

The Braves still have around $1.2 million to spend, but you can see more details in our signing tracker here. The majority of that is anticipated to be used to try to sign Division-I commitments for 12th round pick Cayman Goode and 20th round pick Eric Hartman, as well as 6th round pick Nick Montgomery, who is expected to demand a sizable overslot bonus.
