Ailing Bruce Springsteen Reveals Dying Wish Days After 75th Birthday — Following Agonizing ‘Monster Illness’ That Forced Him to Axe Gigs
He recently cancelled a run of performances due to an excruciatingly painful sickness that rendered him unable to
sing.
Bruce Springsteen, the rockstar of Dancing in the Dark, revealed his final request to RadarOnline.com two days after
turning 75.
After years of struggling to maintain his physical appearance and endurance for his long E-Street Band shows, the
seasoned rock star celebrated his milestone on September 23. He stated that he wants to retire and continue doing
what he does best, which is play.
“Live performances have been a fundamental and enduring aspect of my identity and my justification for being on
this planet since I was sixteen,” he stated.
“As long as the audience follows me, I intend to keep going until the wheels come off. That’s what I do.”
In the soon-to-be released documentary Road Diary: Bruce Springsteen and the E Street Band, Springsteen makes
the moving confession.
The blue collar hero published his debut album Greetings from Asbury Park, N.J. in 1973 and has been performing
with almost the same band lineup for 40 years. His wife Patti Scialfa, 71, recently disclosed her fight with blood
cancer.
He assured his supporters in August that he wouldn’t be slowing down, saying at a performance in Philadelphia:
“We’ve been together for about 50 f—— years, and we ain’t stopping! We’re not saying goodbye to the bulls—! Christ
Jesus! There won’t be an E Street Band farewell tour!”
The singer said, “Farewell to what? The singer is known for her four-hour-plus theatrical shows. Countless
individuals calling out your name. All it takes is that. I have no intention of leaving.”
Nonetheless, when Springsteen was forced to cancel a number of shows last year, his fans braced themselves for the
worst.
“Let me take a moment and thank my fans affected by our postponed shows for their understanding,” he stated in an
October radio broadcast.
“I am deeply sorry but this belly thing, despite my ability to laugh at it, has been a monster and is still unfortunately
rocking my internal world.”
He attempted to brush the illness off as a “bellyache,” but he acknowledged that he was “heartbroken” to have to
cancel shows due to the terrible illness.
