HEARTBREAKING: Celtics Star Survives Accident Earlier Today…

Football legend Frank McAvennie ‘lucky to be alive’ after sleeping driver smashed into car in horror crash

Following a terrifying collision in which a dozing motorist crashed into his car, football icon Frank McAvennie believes he is “lucky to be alive.” After the other car crashed into his VW Touareg in the Borders, the former Celtic and Scotland star was taken to the hospital.

Frank claims that his “quick reflexes” were the only thing that kept him alive when his vehicle was totalled as he was trying to avoid the collision. McAvennie, 64, needed hospital care after being in excruciating pain.

“It was a bad car crash,” he stated. In fact, it was horrifying. I was appalled. That might have been my last breath. “I really feel quite lucky to be alive,” he continued.

“It truly isn’t worth considering—it might have been so much worse. You can see how bad it could have been by looking at the pictures, which show the damage that was done. Even though I was slightly hurt and bruised, I felt really fortunate to be able to get away.

On August 4, ‘Macca’ experienced the crash while en route to play golf with his friend John Hartson at West Linton in the Borders.

Recalling the frightening experience, Frank expressed, “I was happily driving, excited about playing with big John, when suddenly another car appeared heading straight towards me.”

After suffering whiplash injuries and the extensive damage that led to his car being written off, Frank is anticipated to fully recover.

He stated: “It’s obvious that I haven’t been able to play golf – in fact, I’ve been unable to play since the incident due to the pain. However, the car certainly protected me – there’s no doubt about that. It’s a robust vehicle, and I’m grateful for that.”

Describing the event, Frank explained: “It was fifteen minutes to eight in the morning. The driver actually fell asleep. He veered into my lane, but fortunately, I was able to swerve thanks to my quick reflexes.

“He hit the front right of my car, causing extensive damage. It could have been much worse, but it wasn’t. The car held up well, it’s a sturdy car. It’s reassuring that cars are constructed that way.”

In a lighthearted manner about his survival, he added: “So I just believe that fate has other plans for me, I think, and it seems you all aren’t getting rid of me that easily.”
