Heartbreaking: Former Norwich City legend passes away due to a deadly illness…

Former Norwich City player Ian Mellor dies aged 74

Mellor passed away on Wednesday after a protracted illness. He made his Norwich debut in 1973–74, appearing in 43 games and scored nine goals. He later signed with Brighton & Hove Albion, where he was dubbed ‘the Spider’.

In 1973, Norwich paid £65,000 to acquire winger Mellor from Manchester City, who helped the team stay in the top tier.

In addition, he had stints at Chester, Sheffield Wednesday, Bradford City, Worksop Town, and for a short while, he played for Tung Sing in Hong Kong.

Neil, his son, who had his own successful career at Preston, West Ham, Liverpool, and is currently a Sky Sports pundit, announced his father’s passing.

On social media, Mellor said, “My Dad, My Hero, I love you.” “I appreciate everything that you have done. 01/05/2024 – 19/02/1950.

“The loss of my father has devastated us all to no end.

“Big thanks to St Ann’s Hospice and all their brilliant staff who helped during those last days as he battled so hard against amyloidosis.”
