NASCAR world mourning death of legendary driver

For fans of NASCAR, the year 2023 came to an awful conclusion on Sunday with the passing of renowned racer Cale Yarborough, according to several accounts.

Yarborough reportedly passed away in Florence, South Carolina’s McLeod Hospice after a protracted illness.

“One of the most formidable rivals NASCAR has ever encountered is Cale Yarborough,” said NASCAR Chairman and CEO Jim France in a statement. Cale stood out from his colleagues in the record book and on the track thanks to his unique blend of talent, tenacity, and persistence. He was equally at ease operating a tractor as a stock car, and he was well-liked and respected by both rival drivers and fans. I extend my sincere sympathies to Cale Yarborough’s family and friends on behalf of the France family and NASCAR.

Friends of Yarborough had begged for prayers in April.

In addition to being one of the greatest drivers, Yarborough was also a hard man off the racecourse.

In NASCAR history, he was the first driver to win three titles in a row. Additionally, in 1979, he engaged in a fistfight with brothers Donnie and Bobby Allison following the Daytona 500, which served to popularise and expand the sport.

The native of South Carolina started racing in 1957 and gave up on it in 1988. He collected 319 top 10 finishes and 83 victories in between. He spent 69 times on the pole. Additionally, he won the Daytona 500 five times in a row. Because of his reverence in the sport, fans were drawn to Dodson’s tweet.

Dale Jarrett wrote on social media, “Will always be thankful to Cale Yarborough for giving me the chance to drive the #29 car in the Cup series.”
