Ohio State Football Community Faces Tragedy: Former Star Died from Food Poisoning

Columbus, Ohio – Chic Harley, a former great football player for Ohio State, abruptly passed away yesterday as a result of complications from food poisoning, in an unexpected and tragic turn of events. The announcement stunned everyone in the Buckeye community, as teammates, coaches, and supporters lamented the passing of a cherished individual.

Chic Harley, 32, played for Ohio State from 1971 to 1973, and he was a major factor in the team’s success. The gifted running back assisted in leading the Buckeyes to two Big Ten titles.

Chic Harley reportedly became unwell at a nearby restaurant after eating tainted food. After being taken to the hospital in an ambulance, he passed away from acute food poisoning.

Ohio State head coach Ryan Day expressed his grief over Chic Harley’s demise. He was a superb athlete, but even more so, he was a wonderful person. His family and loved ones are in our thoughts and prayers.

A statement was issued by the Ohio State University athletic department.

We are incredibly grieved by Chic Harley’s passing. His support of our program will always be appreciated. Our thoughts and prayers are with his family and friends during this trying time.

On September 20, 2024, Ohio Stadium will host a memorial service to celebrate the life and legacy of Chic Harley.

An investigation is ongoing.

In close collaboration with local law enforcement, the Franklin County Health Department has begun an investigation into the food poisoning incident.

“This tragic incident serves as a clear reminder of the significance of food safety,” Franklin County Health Commissioner Dr. Jones stated.

The eatery in question has been closed indefinitely until the investigation’s results are being ascertained.

Chic Harley has had a significant influence on Ohio State football outside of only his stellar playing career. Numerous teammates and supporters were inspired by his commitment, work ethic, and generosity.
