SABATON Guitarist TOMMY JOHANSSON Pays Tribute To Vocalist ANDRÉ MATOS With Cover Of ANGRA Classic “Carry On”
Tommy Johansson, the frontman of Majestica and guitarist for Sabaton, has shared a cover of the Angra song “Carry
On” from the 1993 album Reaching Horizons.
Johansson: “This is a dedication to one of the world’s greatest power metal singers, who is sadly no longer with us, as
well as to the best power metal band from South America. You deserve this, Andre Matos.
On June 8, 2019, André Matos died of a heart attack. Shortly after his passing, the following message was released:
We regret to inform you that André passed away on Saturday morning from a heart attack. As many are aware, he
was a very private individual who repeatedly expressed in his life that he did not want a wake. Only family members
will be present when he is cremated today in accordance with his wishes. We appreciate everyone’s understanding
and rely on you to ensure that André’s legacy and memories endure forever. Carry on.
Matos recorded three albums and three EPs with the band Angra between 1993 and 1998, making them the most
well-known of all the bands he has played with. Although the band made a significant impact in their native Brazil
with their 1993 debut, Angels Cry, Holy Land from 1996 is regarded as their international breakthrough album.
