Chris Sutton can’t believe what he’s heard been said about Kasper Schmeichel since he joined Celtic

Kasper Schmeichel: the spiky, brilliant goalkeeper ready to cement his own legacy

After becoming a free agent, Schmeichel committed to the team and is probably Brendan Rodgers’ first choice for Celtic the next campaign.

The Parkhead manager has made two astute choices to succeed the retired Joe Hart, with Viljami Sinisalo joining Celtic this summer.

However, Sutton has been particularly irritated by the apparent response to Schmeichel’s signing, as he makes an assumption on the big Dane at Celtic.

Sutton slams ‘resistance’ to new Celtic signing

The 37-year-old Schmeichel’s signing may have drawn some criticism, but it appears that Sutton was unsatisfied with it all after hearing enough bad things.

“There was always going to be big gloves to fill at Celtic following Joe Hart’s decision to retire at the end of last season,” Sutton stated [Daily Record].

However, Brendan Rodgers has discovered one of the few keepers in the area who can easily fit in with them. Kasper Schmeichel will provide the same experience, presence, and stature at the back that Hart did for the team.

The fact that there has been some opposition to the signing strikes me as very amazing. You constantly desire the ideal fit, listen?

“Ideally, you would go out and sign a 28-year-old international who is still developing, someone with Champions League experience, and someone who could bring in a lot of money for the team in the future.”

However, those players are incredibly difficult to come by and even more so to afford in the real world. Teams are spending tens of millions of dollars on those kind of goalkeepers.

Celtic won’t act in that manner. There is no question in my mind that Schmeichel will succeed. He was amazing when I saw him at the Euros. To be honest, I haven’t heard many bad things regarding Schmeichel’s signing. Although there have been some skeptics, the response to the Danish goalkeeper arriving in Paradise has, in my humble view, been overwhelmingly favorable.

After helping Denmark reach the round of 16 in Euro 2024, Schmeichel demonstrated this summer that he still possesses the skills necessary to compete at the highest level in sport.

The rumors about his potential acquisition will vanish fast if the seasoned goalie can play at that caliber for Celtic’s team the next season.
