Mayer has sustained numerous injuries during his short professional career. Mayer could only play in 78 games in 2023 and 91 games in 2022. As of right now, in 2024, he can only play 77 games. Red Sox manager Alex Cora said of the team’s top prospect, “He had a good season… That has a lot of possibilities. Of course, there are a gazillion more problems that require care. Sincerely, I’m concerned about his injuries; our first priority should be to ensure his continued well-being.

On August 11, the Red Sox promoted Mayer to Triple-A along with the other two prospects that comprise their top three.

Mayer won’t, however, start playing for the Triple-A Worcester Red Sox until 2025.
