INJURY UPDATE: The Florida Gators’ head coach confirmed that the team’s excellent defensive tackle is out for the season due to serious injury…

Florida defensive lineman Jamari Lyons will miss the 2024 season due to a broken ankle, Gators coach Billy Napier revealed Monday. Lyons was hurt in the Gators’ first scrimmage of fall camp.

According to 247Sports, he was taken off the pitch with his leg in an air cast.

“Jamari is one of our best. He truly cares. It was quite inspirational. “The entire team was on the pitch, which I have never seen before in my coaching career,” Napier told reporters.

“We got all 132 on the spot there to support him as he was carried off the pitch, so I think that’s an indicator that these guys are doing something right, you know, that there is that type of connection to some degree.”

In 2023, the redshirt sophomore played in all 12 games (one start) and finished with 20 tackles (10 solo) and 2.5 for loss.

Lyons, who is 6-foot-4, was a four-star recruit from Melbourne, Fla., for the Class of 2022. The Gators face No. 19 Miami at home on August 31.
