Former Derby County captain Tom Lawrence in action for Rangers

The most recent Derby County news is available on DerbyshireLive. Tom Lawrence, a current Rangers player, is free to be selected by Wales boss Craig Bellamy.

Despite Tom Lawrence’s participation in a terrible automobile accident five years ago when playing for Derby County, Rangers star Craig Bellamy, the manager of Wales, believes he is free to choose Lawrence. Since the September 2019 accident that gravely injured his Derby colleague Richard Keogh, Lawrence has represented Wales in athletics.

But the 30-year-old, who was ordered to do 180 hours of unpaid work and disqualified from driving for two years after a district judge said he had considered jailing Lawrence, has not played since a friendly win over Mexico in March 2021 amid suggestions that some Football Association of Wales officials were unhappy with his inclusion in squads.

Asked if that was the case, Bellamy said: “No, not at all. I’ve never once heard anything of that.”

Bellamy’s previous manager Rob Page allegedly disregarded Lawrence because of a “bit of history” between the two, according to former Derby manager Wayne Rooney. In September 2022, however, Page refuted that claim, stating that Lawrence had only been passed over in favor of younger forwards like Rubin Colwill and Brennan Johnson.
