JUST IN: The Kansas City Chiefs star commences his eighth training camp…

The Chiefs have won the AFC West each time quarterback Patrick Mahomes has attended training camp. Additionally, the Chiefs have progressed to at least the AFC Championship Game each time he has started.

But when he gets settled for his sixth NFL training camp, there will be one significant difference.

“I’m bringing a TV this year for the first time. I’ve never brought a TV before,” he declared. “However, I brought a TV for the Olympics and NCAA (the EA Sports College Football 25 video game).”

Since he entered the game, Mahomes has been the NFL’s gold standard. He has appeared in four Super Bowls, winning three of them, and been named the MVP of both the regular season and the postseason.

Mahomes is barely content, though, despite winning MVP following the Super Bowl LVIII overtime triumph.

After his worst season as a starter (10-6), with the most interceptions (14), second fewest touchdowns (27), second fewest yards (4,183), lowest quarterback rating (92.6), and lowest yards per attempt (7.0), he really voiced his anger.

“The outcome was fantastic,” he remarked, “but many of us are still experiencing an odd taste in our mouths because we didn’t play football the way we wanted to all season long.”

The Chiefs offence saw its lowest results in terms of yards (ranked ninth in the NFL with 5,972) and points (ranked 15th in the NFL with 371) in 2023 during the Mahomes era, or since Mahomes took over as the starting quarterback.

“We feel like we didn’t play our best football, especially offensively, even though we won the Super Bowl last year,” Mahomes remarked. Thus, improving is what we want to do.

Despite winning a Super Bowl, Mahomes’ discontent highlights one of the intangible traits that distinguish him as a truly exceptional athlete. He is a meticulous person who needs intensive coaching.

Chiefs head coach Andy Reid said of the player, “He always wants more.” “That’s how the best players operate.”

And for that additional reason, the Chiefs awarded him an unprecedented $450 million, 10-year contract in 2020.

Although Mahomes is the highest-paid player on the Chiefs roster, the majority of the players he practices with early in training camp come from vastly different socioeconomic backgrounds. The majority of them are under rookie contracts.

This is due to the fact that just the quarterbacks, rookies, and a few injured players reported on Tuesday. On Friday, the veterans will report to the training camp.

Despite expressing enthusiasm for his eighth season as team captain, Mahomes regretted one thing about training camp.

It’s never easy to leave the family behind, he remarked.

And that family is going to grow. Brittany, his wife, said that she is expecting their third and, presumably, final child.

“I’ve finished. I’ll say that,” Mahomes replied, causing the throng of media members to giggle. “I’ve always wanted to have young children.”

Although the 28-year-old Mahomes has already won three Super Bowls, he is eager to win more.

He understands going into his eighth season that it’s championship or bust.

It sucks when you don’t win it now, he remarked.
