JUST IN: The Raiders are incredibly confident with their newest underrated acquirement as he sets for the pitch.

An Underrated New Addition May be One of Raiders Best Moves This Offseason

The Las Vegas Raiders went into the summer resolved to address their offense, which was their biggest weakness. The Raiders have opted to implement a running back by committee system, abandoning their offensive plan that required Josh Jacobs to carry the majority of the team’s rushing responsibilities over the previous five seasons as the starting back. Many other backs were able to receive opportunities in Las Vegas after Jacobs left the Raiders in free agency to join the Green Bay Packers.

Running back Zamir White demonstrated his ability to be the team’s primary back when he successfully filled in for Jacobs after the quarterback went down with an injury in the fourth quarter of the previous season. White not only proved he could be the team’s starting back, but he also did so during a run of games the Raiders needed to win in order to have a chance to make the playoffs.

In one of his first actions as general manager in Las Vegas this offseason, General Manager Tom Telesco let go of veteran running back Ameer Abdullah, who was also a member of the Raiders. Abdullah provides the Raiders with a seasoned presence who is acquainted with every aspect of the team’s offensive scheme. In addition, he gives the Raiders a consistent third down and a different look.

White and Abdullah give the Raiders two running backs whose style of play fits well together. White brings the power. Abdullah brings the speed. However, the Raiders added another back this offseason who can do both: veteran running back Alexander Mattison.

After leading the Vikings to an upset victory over the Raiders the previous season, Mattison was signed by the Raiders in free agency this offseason, much like veteran quarterback Gardner Minshew. After finishing the Vikings’ game against the Raiders the previous season with 66 yards on double-digit carries, Mattison was the team’s top rusher.

Mattison provides another excellent running back that the Raiders offensive coordinator, Luke Getsy, can deploy in any situation. Mattison can catch the ball out of the backfield and is a powerful runner. He provides the Raiders with a reliable option at running back even when White and Abdullah are not available. He is basically a hybrid of White and Abdullah. The Raiders’ acquisition of Mattison this offseason may turn out to be their best decision.

other than bringing Christian Wilkins, a seasoned defensive lineman, on board.
