Now, the Detroit Lions are here. The Lions were only three years into the Dan Campbell + Brad Holmes rebuild when they were just one fourth of the way to their first Super Bowl appearance in team history. It’s safe to assume that the front office and coaching staff of the Lions have finally stabilised.
Detroit is under pressure right now. They triumphed in a home playoff game and the NFC North last year, living up to expectations. Detroit is now anticipated to be an NFC Super Bowl candidate.
It’s not hard to see why. In Detroit, Jared Goff has revitalised his career and secured a significant contract extension. The offence features multiple elite weapons and what’s likely the finest offensive line in the game. A lethal trio consisting of Amon-Ra St. Brown, Sam LaPorta, and Jahmyr Gibbs is supported by individuals such as David Montgomery and Jameson Williams. Aidan Hutchinson, a future superstar, and a few more reliable players make up the defence.
Perhaps the most significant individual in the Lions organisation is Brad Holmes. His three consecutive stellar draft classes have served as a testament to his inspiring vision for reconstructing the organisation. Holmes appears to have done it once more with the 2024 draft class.
In 2023, the Lions’ subpar secondary—especially their outside cornerbacks—was their biggest vulnerability. In the NFC Championship game, Detroit started Kindle Vildor and Cameron Sutton at outside corner, but they were unable to stop the 49ers’ pass catchers.
But this offseason, the Lions took a strong approach to meeting this need. They acquired Carlton Davis III in a trade with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers and signed Amik Robertson as a free agent. Terrion Arnold and Ennis Rakestraw Jr., two cornerbacks, were also selected by Brad Holmes in the draft.
With just one or two more players, the Detroit Lions might have a “perfect” team with essentially no deficiencies.
Their main worries are safety, edge rusher depth, and wide receiver depth.
Quandre Diggs would be a great addition to the Lions’ safety room as a veteran.

Quandre Diggs was selected by the Detroit Lions in the sixth round of the 2015 NFL Draft. He spent four full seasons playing for the Detroit Lions before being traded to the Seattle Seahawks in the midst of the 2019 campaign. In order to free up cap money, the Seahawks cut Diggs earlier in the summer.
Diggs is a very good complimentary safety. He is an excellent tackler and has good coverage abilities. Having played in the NFL for nine years, he has a comprehensive understanding of the game and is capable of mentoring younger players. Additionally, he appears to meet every requirement for “grit” that Campbell and Holmes have for new players.
Kerby Joseph, Ifeatu Melifonwu, and C.J. Moore are the current members of Detroit’s safety room. According to rumours circulating from Allen Park, Brian Branch might play a lot more safety in 2024, which would free up Robertson and Rakestraw’s position as cornerbacks. The Lions now have a little more depth than they did in 2023, but Diggs’ experience is still missing.
Diggs would provide the Lions with a mentor that they could use on the sidelines and in team meetings as an additional coach. For young players like Branch, Melifonwu, and Joseph who still have opportunity to develop, this may be incredibly advantageous. Diggs would also provide Kerby Joseph at free safety a capable backup and rotational option.
Joseph is one Jenga piece whose absence would seriously hurt the Lions as the roster stands right now.
If there is a shared interest, this relocation might be completed quickly. Diggs is a free agent right now, and there hasn’t been any information regarding teams contacting him to schedule workouts. It would not be difficult at all for the Lions to add Diggs because they have over $30 million in cap space.
Even if Quandre Diggs has to fight his way onto the roster during training camp, the Detroit Lions should give it serious consideration to bring him home.
