Zyhir Hope headlines Dodgers on Arizona Fall League roster
On Wednesday, Major League Baseball released the rosters for the 2024 Arizona Fall League, which is a yearly postseason showcase of prospects in the desert.
Six teams compete in the Arizona Fall League, which runs from October 7 to November 14. The Dodgers and White Sox, co-tenants of Camelback Ranch, as well as prospects from the Phillies, Cardinals, and Reds, are among the teams represented by the Glendale Desert Dogs.
The Glendale roster included six Dodgers, the most notable of whom is outfielder Zyhir Hope, a 19-year-old who was acquired from the Cubs in January as part of the Michael Busch trade, along with Dodgers minor league pitcher of the year Jackson Ferris.
Hope had a 144 wRC+, nine home runs, fourteen doubles, eight stolen bases, and a.287/.415/.490 batting line.
54 matches. After colliding with the wall in April, he had a shoulder injury that kept him out of action for three months. Including his rehab games, he participated in just 61 games this season in the Arizona Complex League. He gets an opportunity to put a few more miles on his 2024 odometer with the AFL.
Drafted out of Virginia in the second round of the 2023 draft, third baseman Jake Gelof was sent to High-A on May 6 following a stellar debut in Rancho Cucamonga (.956 OPS). With only one hit in his last 26 at-bats, he struggled in the Great Lakes, finishing 85 games with a 74 wRC+, 16 doubles, and 8 home runs.
Pitchers make up the other four Dodgers on Glendale’s roster.
Signed Jerming Rosario a 2018 international free agent, arrived in Triple-A last week as a 22-year-old for his one and only start. This season, Rosario pitched 103⅔ innings with Great Lakes and Double-A Tulsa, recording 115 strikeouts and 67 walks with a 4.34 ERA. Out of all the Dodgers minor leaguers, Rosario is one of only seven players to reach triple digits in innings pitched this season with 108⅔.
In 44 games this season, Kelvin Ramirez—who signed as an amateur out of Venezuela in 2021—has a 4.78 ERA and 12 saves for Great Lakes. In his 52⅔ innings pitched, the 23-year-old right-hander struck out 61 and walked 26.
Eriq Swan, who was selected by the Dodgers in the fourth round of 2023 out of Middle Tennessee State, has a 5.16 ERA and 29 22⅔ innings of strikeouts and 16 walks for Rancho Cucamonga. He was on the injured list for two months, from April to June.
This season, in 32 innings between Rancho Cucamonga and the Arizona Complex League, fellow 2023 draftee Alex Makarewich (13th round out of Northwestern State) made his professional debut, walking 37 and striking out 45 while maintaining a 9.28 ERA.
Apart from the six athletes, there will be two Dodgers serving as coaches and trainers. Glendale’s hitting coach is Audy Ciriaco, who was the Dodgers’ Dominican Summer League hitting coach this season. Akinori Maeda, a trainer with the Quakes, is one of two trainers employed by Glendale.
