NEWSNOW: Cubs star sets to cut ties with Cubs after being offered a whopping $112M deal.
The Chicago Cubs are gearing up for what could be a pivotal offseason. After missing the playoffs again in 2024, they’re close to being competitive and have invested heavily in the roster, adding manager Craig Counsell to help steer the team forward.
With increased spending power, the Cubs could potentially land a big-name player or two. Rumors are already circulating about possible targets, though much of it remains speculation at this stage.
One key decision will involve star slugger Cody Bellinger. His future in Chicago is uncertain, as he has the option to opt out of his contract and test free agency. According to The Athletic’s Jim Bowden, Bellinger may exercise that option and sign a four-year, $112 million deal with the Houston Astros. Bowden predicts the Astros will also re-sign Alex Bregman to a seven-year, $185.5 million contract.
Bellinger has delivered exactly what the Cubs hoped for over the last two seasons, but his next move leaves Chicago facing a significant question.
