After being hit in the helmet by a pitch less than a day before, outfielder Heston Kjerstad of the Baltimore Orioles was placed on the seven-day disabled list on Saturday due to concussions.

Kjerstad was taken out of the lineup soon before the game on Saturday, which he was originally scheduled to start against the New York Yankees. Just before the game, the Orioles revealed that he had been placed on the disabled list. Baltimore retaliated by calling up outfielder Kyle Stowers from Norfolk’s Triple-A team.

The Orioles also reassigned starting pitcher Cade Povich to Norfolk with a few games left before the All-Star break, and they added right-hander Vinny Nottoli from the same club to their roster.
Due to a left quad strain, the Yankees activated catcher Carlos Narváez from Triple-A Scranton/Wilkes-Barre and placed catcher Jose Trevino on the 10-day disabled list.

During Friday night’s game, Kjerstad was hit in the ear flap by a pitch hurled by Clay Holmes of New York at a velocity of 97 miles per hour. Even though the Yankees won 4-1, the incident resulted in benches clearing.

After the game, Orioles manager Brandon Hyde and New York manager Aaron Boone spoke, with Boone defining their exchange as “fine.”
