Derby confirm Louie Sibley exit

Louie Sibley, an academy product, will be departing Derby this summer after his contract expires, the club has confirmed.

The 22-year-old was expected to rise quickly in the younger ranks, winning the league and securing a spot in the next season’s European championship with the under-18 team.

The next season, the Rams, who had Sibley on their roster along with Eiran Cashin, Lee Buchanan, Liam Thompson, Festy Ebosele, and Morgan Whittaker, won a thrilling game against Borussia Dortmund.

Sibley, who played as an offensive midfielder in a season marred by the pandemic, scored on his first appearance against Blackburn Rovers and then went on to score a hat-trick against Millwall the following game.

After that, the young player struggled to establish himself on the club and the Rams never quite found a spot to play him.

Despite his promotion to League One and a few magical moments, Sibley found it difficult to guarantee a spot in the starting lineup.

That was prior to the most recent season, when an injury forced Warne to use the adaptable midfielder as a left wing-back.

Sibley contributed significantly to the Rams’ promotion, making 44 games in all competitions.

Nevertheless, Derby has confirmed the 22-year-old has left even though additional terms were offered; his contract expires in the summer.
