For her return, Longoria did left the door slightly ajar. He told Topkin he would think about coming back if a team that could compete in the playoffs called him.

But given the time of year, that seems improbable. Before moving to San Francisco for the following five seasons and playing for the Arizona Diamondbacks in the last season, Longoria was a member of the Tampa Bay Rays for his first ten seasons.

The bat struck with its right hand.In his one season with the Diamondbacks, he hit 223/.295/.422 (92 wRC+) with 11 home runs, 28 RBI, and 25 runs in 237 plate appearances. He had a strong start with Arizona, but his season was wrecked by a back injury in the second half.

Though the Texas RangersTexas RangersTexas Rangers won the series in five games, the Diamondbacks did make it to the World Series last season. Remarkably, Longoria had a similar incident in 2008 during his debut season with the Rays. They advanced to the World Series, but the Philadelphia Phillies defeated them in five games.
In the event that Longoria does not suit up for a major league team going forward, his appearances in the World Series will be the high points of his career. Strangely, in 1998, the Diamondbacks and Rays were both expansion teams.

Perhaps the greatest player in Tampa Bay’s short history is Longoria. The club originally selected him with the third overall pick in the 2006 draft. Expectations are high with a draft pedigree like that, but Longoria exceeded them.

Since 2008, he has been an All-Star three times in a row. Three AL Gold Glove Awards were also given to him. Over 16 seasons, the seasoned bat finished with 1,930 hits, 342 home runs, and 1,159 RBI, good for a.804 OPS. He contributed strong defense and above-average power to the team for many years.
A career like that deserves some consideration for the Hall of Fame even if he may fall well short of induction in a few years. While the 38-year-old contemplates his next move, there is no doubt that he has had an incredible career.
