Key Detroit Lions defensive back discovered to have unknown injury
Based on recently published photos, it looks like Detroit Lions safety and nickelback Brian Branch is healing from an undisclosed ailment. However, it’s far too early to panic just yet.
During the draft, Branch was sighted about town. According to photographs, the 2023 second-round pick is using a scooter to get around and is wearing a boot. Branch’s left foot has the boot on it, but it’s unclear what he’s dealing with right now or what his future plans are.
Given that Branch was essential in the Lions’ defense in 2023 and is desperately required for a season in which Detroit hopes to win the Super Bowl, this is certainly at least a little alarming.

In his debut season, the Alabama product was excellent in the slot. Branch received a PFF coverage grade of 76.0 after giving up a 62.7% completion rate and an 86.9 passer rating when targeted, according to Pro Football Focus.
The Lions did add a lot of players in the offseason who could be useful in case Branch has to miss any time. Terrion Arnold, Ennis Rakestraw, and free agency signing Amik Robertson are all capable of playing out of the slot.
