SAD: White sox megastar acquirement prevented by the Dodgers due to rivary issues with the padres..

The worst-case rival might prevent the White Sox-Padres transaction for Garrett Crochet.

A.J. Preller, President of Baseball Operations for the San Diego Padres, is surely getting ready for the impending MLB trade deadline. With just over a week until the deadline, San Diego is likely to be a buyer. The team was barely in the running for the playoffs going into the All-Star break.

Garrett Crochet, the starting pitcher for the Chicago White Sox, is allegedly one of Preller’s top targets. With a 3.02 ERA and a 35.2% strikeout rate going into the second half of the season, the left-hander was the only All-Star for the White Sox.

However, given those figures, it’s hardly surprising to learn that other teams are also vying for Chicago’s southpaw. Regretfully for Pads supporters, the team that is reportedly highly interested in signing Crochet also plays in the same division. It’s the Los Angeles Dodgers, indeed.

White Sox-Padres trade for Garrett Crochet could be thwarted by LA Dodgers

Pat Ragazzo of Sports Illustrated reports that the Dodgers have placed a significant wager on White Sox outfielder Luis Robert Jr. and Crochet. According to the source, LA might be attempting to put together a prospect-heavy deal for Michael Kopech and both players.

The Padres are hardly the only team impacted by the injury bug this season, though. Numerous excellent starters for the Dodgers have also been lost to injury. The Dodgers are still without Walker Buehler, Tyler Glasnow, Brusdar Graterol, Michael Grove, Yoshinobu Yamamoto, and Dustin May despite Clayton Kershaw’s slow recovery from injury. It’s easy to understand why LA wants to improve their rotation as well.

Therefore, it’s disheartening for the Friar faithful even while it’s not shocking that the Dodgers—with their seemingly limitless resources—are pursuing Crochet at the deadline. However, as the trade deadline approaches, don’t be shocked if organizations like the Baltimore Orioles, New York Yankees, and others try to sign the White Sox star.
