J.J. McCarthy gets Vikings to do something they’ve never done before..
Now that the Minnesota Vikings and J.J. McCarthy have completed the race, all of the quarterbacks
selected in the first round of the 2024 NFL Draft are under contract.
But there is a little catch to McCarthy’s agreement with Minnesota.
Although PrettyRickey213, a user on X (formerly known as Twitter), is not a reliable source, he has been
disclosing inside information about the draft and free agency this offseason. PrettyRickey213 has
maintained that McCarthy’s signing bonus payout was a major point of dispute between the Vikings and
the player.
As of right now, the purported insider claims the Vikings withdrew and paid McCarthy’s signing bonus
in full up front in order to seal the deal. The Vikings have never done anything like this before that.
McCarthy was assured of receiving the entire bonus sum, regardless of whether it was paid out on day
one or split over four years, but it is an intriguing detail that his team was able to close the deal.
McCarthy will not have to become a holdout as the Vikings prepare for minicamp as a result.
