The 2024 MLB season has not gone well for the San Francisco Giants thus far. They currently have a 29-32 record and are in third place in the National League West division standings.
The Giants were dealt yet another blow on Sunday. Prominent pitcher Blake Snell sustained an injury. Although the degree of the injuries is still unknown, it doesn’t sound good.
Snell has been placed on the 15-day disabled list as of the most recent update. I’m hoping he can recuperate fast and won’t have to miss any more time.
When Snell talked after the injury, it was evident how frustrated he was. He had struggled with a groin ailment previously this year. He also had trouble with one early in the year.
Snell talked about the new injury in a post-game quote that ESPN published. He also made a comparison between it and the injuries he had earlier in the year.
“We’ll see; it feels the same. Once the MRI results are in, we’ll make further plans. Although it’s unfortunate and annoying, we must go on to the next task at hand, attack it, heal, and return to the field.
Bob Melvin, the manager of the Giants, also mentioned the injury in passing. By saying that Snell did not appear worse this time around than the prior injury, he managed to provide a small bright spot in an otherwise dire circumstance.
“I don’t believe his movement is any worse than it was before. However, I’m not sure how this isn’t an IL circumstance.
Clearly, the injury was an IL scenario based on reports that have surfaced since those remarks were made.
Snell has had a really difficult season thus far in his debut year with San Francisco. The Giants signed him with the expectation of receiving a major ace, but that is not what they have received.
For San Francisco, the 31-year-old left-hander has started six games. Along with a dismal 9.51 ERA, he had a 0-3 record in those appearances. For Snell, the season has been a nightmare when you include the injury concerns.
Hopefully, he can tackle his rehabilitation and return to the field shortly. All the Giants and their supporters can do is hope that his time off will enable him to regroup and get back on track. They will require Snell to be pitching at the top of his game if they hope to salvage their season and contend for the postseason.
