Oklahoma Outlasts Tulane: Everything You Need to Know

Jason Bronson, a former offensive lineman for Oklahoma, passed away in Kansas City, Kansas, last week at the age of 43. The cause of death remained undisclosed. The Oklahoma City native played football for three years as a 6-foot-2, 279-pound guard at OU after being named an All-State selection at Westmoore High School.

During his playing career, Bronson sustained at least six concussions, which led to his retirement from football as a senior. He also assisted in coaching the Sooners’ 2000 national championship squad as a student assistant.

“I didn’t want to make it, but it was an easy decision,” Bronson said in an interview with The Oklahoman at the time. “In the past, injuries were a part of the sport. It was only the last one that made me take them seriously.

“I think six or seven concussions is enough.” I still enjoy the game, but I’ve learned how to handle situations like this one. College football players must play through injuries, but the brain requires time to recover.”

The CTE (chronic traumatic encephalopathy) Study program at Tulane University received brain tissue donations from Bronson’s family.

BOWLS: Due to COVID-19 concerns, two games were cancelled on Sunday morning, lightening the college football bowl schedule. Due to COVID-19 concerns inside the Boston College program, Monday’s Military Bowl between Eastern Carolina and Boston College has been cancelled.
