The Los Angeles Dodgers unleashed a devastating 11-3 victory against the New York Yankees on Saturday following an exhilarating 2-1 victory over the team on Friday night at Yankee Stadium.
When two Hernández players homered in the same game on Saturday, the Dodgers made Major League Baseball history in an unexpected way. Teoscar Hernández hit two deep balls into the New York night, including a grand slam in the eighth inning, while Kiké Hernández hit a home run in the fourth inning.
Ever since the Dodgers moved to the Bronx, Teoscar has been inconsolable. In the top of the eleventh inning, he hit the two-run double that won the game. He wasted no time in giving the Dodgers an early 1-0 lead on Saturday with a solo home run in the second inning.
With the Dodgers leading by two runs in the eighth, Teoscar hit a pitch into the Dodgers’ bullpen for his second season and fifth career grand slam, sending Yankees fans running for the door.
Hernández increased his team lead in RBIs to 47 with his six RBIs on Saturday (tying a career record), 35 of which came with runners in scoring position.
Hernández responded, “That’s what makes you a really good player,” when asked how much he likes to bat when there are runners in scoring position. “I want to play at a very high level. Even if I fail or don’t finish the task, I want to be in such circumstances all the time. I want to take advantage of the next chance and just strive to perform better.
On Sunday, the Dodgers take on the formidable Yankees, and if past performances are any indication, Teoscar might be a major factor in the game.
At 4:10 p.m. PT, the first pitch is scheduled to begin.
