BREAKING: The Miami Heat and Bam Adebayo are discussing contract extension as Jimmy Butler’s future is uncertain…

As the 2024 offseason gets underway, Jimmy Butler’s future with the Miami Heat may be somewhat uncertain, but that won’t stop the organisation from attempting to secure Bam Adebayo as a franchise cornerstone.

According to reports, Adebayo and the Heat will talk about an extension this summer.

Adebayo’s contract is currently set to expire after the 2025–2026 season, giving the club two more years to control him. The Heat seem intent on keeping him subdued for an extended period of time.

Adebayo has developed into a consistent contender for Defensive Player of the Year while also improving offensively, making him an indispensable component of Miami’s recent success.

Adebayo scored at least 20 points per game for the first time in his career in the 2022–2023 campaign. His scoring average dropped back to 19.3 points per game during the previous campaign, but he still made progress in other areas, such as being more willing to make 3-pointers.

In the end, he finished the previous season with an average of 19.3 points, 10.4 rebounds, and 3.9 assists per game, or a double-double. He attempted 42 3-pointers in total during the season, going 35.7 percent from beyond the arc and 52.1 percent from the field.

The three-time All-Star, who is now 26 years old, might not have even achieved his ceiling and still have many productive years ahead of him.

Presumably, the Heat would want to make sure Adebayo plays for them for the entirety of his prime.

Butler, on the other hand, is available for an extension this summer and has just one year left on his contract (not including his player option for the 2025–2026 campaign). There has been significant discussion regarding his future with the Heat as a result of the circumstances.

Adebayo is a player Miami can build around for years to come, though, regardless of where Butler ends up. The Heat’s ultimate goal is to win an NBA title, something they haven’t done since 2013. They might be able to get there with Adebayo’s assistance, therefore it would be wise to sign him to an extension.
