The Unpopularity of Chicago Cubs Coach Among Fans Is Increasing…

Craig Counsell’s departure from the Milwaukee Brewers to take over as manager of the Chicago Cubs was one of the most unexpected moves of the MLB offseason.

Chicago interviewed Counsell and offered him the position even though they already had David Ross under contract (they then sent a representative to Ross’s house in Florida to terminate him).

It was a decision that naturally infuriated Brewers supporters. Counsell had built a solid fan base over the years by portraying himself as a hometown boy who became a manager for his preferred team. The bitterness resulted in a defaced placard at a minor league facility bearing the former Milwaukee manager’s name.

Milwaukee now leads Counsell’s Cubs by three and a half games, 30-21. Chicago has dropped its last three away games against the Boston Red Sox, while the Brewers have won their last two. It seems that Brewers supporters may not be the only ones heckling their former manager, Counsell, as the Cubs are set to begin play at American Family Field on Monday.

Despite becoming the most successful manager in Brewers history, Counsell was not without his detractors. Fans particularly took issue with Counsell’s usage of relief pitchers and the length of time he allowed starters to pitch.

It seems Cubs fans are already tired of the same things that some Brewers fans find annoying, despite the fact he has only been their manager for less than half the season:

Ross served as a prop. I’m being ridiculous, but the Cubs were a stronger offensive team while he was here.
