MLB rumors: Yankees, Dodgers interested in signing 44-year old pitcher
The MLB trade deadline on July 30th should be seen by the Los Angeles Dodgers and New York Yankees
as an opportunity to add a possible X-factor to their respective championship campaigns. To strengthen
their pitching depth, they are also focusing in the free agency market. One guy in particular—who was
probably not on many people’s radars—was even mentioned by the two most recognizable teams in
baseball history.
The Yankees and Dodgers are interested in Rich Hill, who is back on the mound, according to Pete
Abraham of The Boston Globe on Thursday. “The lefty, who is 44, is hoping to return for his 20th major
league season.”
Choosing to retire is a difficult choice that is not always taken when society believes it should. The
Undertaker, Rickey Henderson, and Muhammad Ali all continued to compete long after their careers
were over. Observing them in their later years was excruciatingly distressing at times. But those are
legends and icons. Hill is looking for a turning point in his lengthy and reputable career.
The native of Massachusetts has represented 13 different Major League Baseball teams, including New
York and Los Angeles. His career ERA is 4.01 and he is 90-73. Throughout his career, injuries have often
hampered him, which may be the reason he is aiming for a comeback at this age. Although Hill’s
experience may be helpful for these candidates for the crown, they must decide if His recent
performance justifies a berth on the roster.
Rich Hill was unquestionably successful in the years prior to 2023, but his 5.41 ERA over 32 games with
the Pittsburgh Pirates and San Diego Padres was unimpressive. The Dodgers and Yankees have a major
question to answer. Was the previous season a blip before a strong comeback, or was it the beginning of
the end?
