The Chicago Bears made numerous moves this summer to improve their offence. Chicago selected Caleb Williams and Rome Odunze with the first and ninth overall picks, signed D’Andre Swift in free agency, and acquired Keenan Allen from the Los Angeles Chargers.
Fans of the Chicago Bears are looking forward to seeing what Allen, Odunze, and D.J. Moore can achieve this season. Moore excelled in his debut season with the Bears in 2023, and he was rewarded with a contract extension on Tuesday.
According to ESPN’s Adam Schefter, Moore and the Bears have agreed to a four-year, $110 million deal extension, with $82.6 million guaranteed. Moore’s contract extension is reportedly the largest in Bears organisation history.
Moore is coming off an excellent 2023 season in the Windy City. The former first-round choice set career highs in all categories, with 96 receptions (136 targets) for 1,364 yards and eight touchdowns.
Moore was acquired by Chicago in a blockbuster trade a month before the 2023 NFL Draft, which saw the Carolina Panthers receive the first overall pick. Many fans were wondering if Moore could keep up the pace he set in Carolina with the Bears, and he did so alongside Justin Fields.
Moore was still under contract for the 2025 season, therefore the Bears did not need to extend him for the 2024 season. However, with so many other receivers signing new contracts this offseason, it seemed only natural that the Bears would lock in Moore for the foreseeable future.
That being said, the Bears’ front management will now focus on Keenan Allen, who is in the final year of a contract deal inked with the Chargers in 2020. With a rookie quarterback, the Bears could decide to keep Allen, giving them one of the strongest wide receiver groups in the NFL.
