According to Mike Verweij, Ajax has entered the competition to sign Gent’s 16-year-old Belgian defender Jorthy Mokio. Numerous elite
teams, including Bayern Munich, Barcelona, and PSV, another Eredivisie team, are vying for the adolescent player. While the athlete has
drawn interest from some of Europe’s best clubs, contract negotiations have scarcely been able to take place. Gent had been hopeful that
the teenager would stay with the side for a few more seasons.
This season, Mokio made his first appearance for Gent as a senior. He participated in four games during the post-season playoffs. The
defender came up via Gent’s youth system, but it looks like Gent supporters will only get to witness him in these few appearances.

Gent has sold several players this season, and they intend to use the proceeds to reinvest in the team in order to contend for the Belgian
championship in the summer. The fact that they can’t sell Mokio to one of the top teams interested in him and earn more money will
irritate people.
