Following their recent signings, Ipswich Town are reportedly looking to recruit a £10 million defender.
The Tractor Boys’ Premier League season began on Saturday, when they hosted Liverpool. It was always going to be a difficult start for Ipswich, and they were thrashed 2-0.
However, Kieran McKenna is not going to judge his team too harshly on games like that because he understands their prospects of success against large opponents are minimal.
Ipswich Town’s newest acquisitions
As soon as Ipswich confirmed their promotion to the top tier, it was assumed that the club would be extremely busy making roster changes in order to adjust as swiftly as possible to the new division.
So far, the Tractor Boys have signed nine new players during this transfer window, but a large number of players have left the club, either because their contracts ended, they were sold, or they were loaned out for the season.
Omari Hutchinson, who was on loan at Portman Road during the 2023/24 season, is among those who have joined Ipswich. The winger has been joined by Liam Delap and Jacob Greaves, all of whom played at Hull City last season, and Ipswich has added Arijanet Muric to their goalkeeping roster.
The team has also added other players, including Ben Johnson and Conor Townsend, during this transfer window. But Ipswich have been very active in the last week or so, as the club has made three new signings, with Kalvin Phillips entering on loan for the season from Manchester City, Sammie Szmodics joining in a large money move from Blackburn Rovers, and Jens Cajuste arriving on loan from a Serie A side Napoli.
McKenna will be hoping that all three players can help his team avoid relegation to the Championship. Despite recently adding these three players to the team, Ipswich’s transfer chase appears to be far from done, with the club considering a £10 million move for a defender.
Ipswich Town has an interest in Dara O’Shea.
According to renowned journalist Alan Nixon, as related by The 72, Ipswich Town are interested in signing Burnley defender Dara O’Shea for £10 million.
According to the report, the Tractor Boys are eying up a move for the defender, which could be worth £10 million, as they aim to beat Brentford to the signing, who have also been cited with an interest in in the player.
Nixon goes on to add that while the Irish defender may be patient in selecting where he wants to play next, this risks Ipswich and McKenna moving on to other transfer targets.
Last summer, the 25-year-old signed for the Clarets from West Bromwich Albion. O’Shea appeared 37 times for Burnley in all competitions last season, with 33 of those appearances coming in the Premier League.
The defender scored four goals and provided four assists last season, and he is off to a solid start this season, scoring in the club’s first league game against Luton Town.
