Kansas City Chiefs live roster tracker: Super Bowl hero among cuts; KC trades for TE
Kadarius Toney, a receiver for the Kansas City Chiefs and Super Bowl hero, was cut on Tuesday as part of the team’s mandatory roster purging, a source told Sam McDowell of The Star.
The Chiefs also waived the rights to undrafted rookie linebacker Swayze Bozeman and running back Deneric Prince, sources told McDowell and the Star. If Bozeman clears waivers, he will be considered for the team’s practice squad.
Some Chiefs choices that have been publicised elsewhere: The Chiefs have cut tight end Irv Smith Jr. and receiver Justyn Ross, according to NFL insider Jordan Schultz and running back Louis Rees-Zammit of ESPN.
Furthermore, Schultz revealed that Carson Steele, an undrafted rookie running back, had made the squad.
According to NFL Network’s Tom Pelissero, the Chiefs also made a trade on Tuesday afternoon, acquiring Dallas Cowboys tight end Peyton Hendershot in exchange for a conditional seventh-round pick in 2026. Hendershot, a 25-year-old Indiana native who was not selected in the 2022 NFL Draft, has caught 15 passes for 141 yards and two scores in the past two seasons. He has also played 397 special teams snaps.
In Super Bowl LVII, Toney—who the Chiefs acquired from the New York Giants in a 2022 trade—had his finest play for the team when he returned a punt 65 yards against the Philadelphia Eagles to set up a touchdown for the Kansas City offence. The play raised the Chiefs’ win-probability rate from 66.5% to 79.6%, according to NFL Next Gen Stats.
Despite his struggles with drops and injuries the previous season, 25-year-old Toney failed to make a lasting impression on the squad throughout training camp.
KC and every other NFL team have until Tuesday at 3 p.m. Central time to reduce their rosters to 53 players. Later this week, the Chiefs will also assemble their 16-man practice squad.
