Rodgers gives Carter-Vickers injury update ahead of St Johnstone

In a press conference before of tomorrow’s league match against St Johnstone, Celtic manager Brendan Rodgers

announced that centre-back Cameron Carter-Vickers would not play.

Following his absence from the Scottish League Cup matchday squad against Falkirk last Saturday, the manager

informed Premier Sports that the 26-year-old has been “suffering” with a metatarsal ailment beneath his big toe.

On Friday afternoon, September 27, Rodgers discussed Carter-Vickers’ current situation, saying, “Cameron will miss

out tomorrow.” We merely need to take a look at his big toe as he is experiencing pain in that joint.

He has been playing with it for a little while, but since he hurt during the game in Bratislava, we need to try to

manage it now. We’ll see where it is on Tuesday and hopefully it will calm down very quickly.”

When asked if Carter-Vickers would be ready to play in Tuesday’s Champions League match against Borussia

Dortmund on the road, the manager replied that he and his backroom staff will assess the player’s condition day-by-

day.

“It’s hard to tell [if he’ll be fit for Tuesday],” Rodgers continued. We’ll just focus on this game for now, and on

Sunday or Monday, we’ll check in to see how he’s doing.”

In Sunday’s thrilling 5-2 quarterfinal victory, Aaron Rodgers made eight changes to his starting lineup. Nicolas Kuhn

came off the bench to assist Adam Idah twice in as many minutes before tying the score in the last few minutes of

play. Carter-Vickers was one of those players.

Stephen Welsh and fellow countryman Auston Trusty formed the core of the Hoops defence; with five minutes

remaining in normal time, Welsh was replaced by Maik Nawrocki.
