Bulls trade rising star to Bucks in proposed deal: ‘Value may never be higher’..
The Milwaukee Bucks and Chicago Bulls are considering a trade that would address the Bulls’ surplus of point guards on the roster.
Josh Giddey, a recent addition to Chicago, will likely start at center back with Coby White.
Lead guard Ayo Dosunmu will put a lot of pressure on Bulls head coach Billy Donovan to play heavy minutes behind Giddey and White, and if Lonzo Ball stays healthy, there will be too many cooks in the kitchen when it comes to Chicago’s ball handlers.
Zach LaVine, who will start at the wing but receive a lot of touches as a pick and roll ball handler, is not even taken into consideration.
It is true that the Bulls are having issues with playing time.
Ball trade would be Chicago’s answer, but it is not feasible to till February, when Ball, following three months of action, should have (hopefully) restored his value.
A different strategy is to trade Dosunmu, as Grant Hughes of Bleacher Report has suggested doing in the form of a deal with the Milwaukee Bucks.
Imagining that the Giannis Antetokounmpo era in Milwaukee will have passed by 2031 (making that pick extremely desirable), Hughes proposed that the Bulls transfer Dosunmu to the Bucks for three-and-D wing Pat Connaughton and a 2031 first-round exchange.
Above all, Hughes claimed that the current state of Dosunmu’s value peaked, making a swap for Chicago feasible.
According to Hughes, “the 24-year-old’s market value may never be higher than it is right now.” Having just secured a starting position and scoring a career-high 12.2 points per game
Due to his poor performance in the latter months of the previous season, Dosunmu will only make $7.0 million this year and $7.5 million in 2025–2026 before entering unrestricted free agency.
That price is most likely too low for the Bulls to persuade Dosunmu to renew, so it is very possible he will go unsigned in two summers. The title-chasing Bucks, who are fully committed to making their present squad as dangerous as possible, should not be affected by that long-term worry.
“Dosunmu could spell Damian Lillard at point guard, improve over Pat Connaughton in the rotation, and bring a lot more youth and athleticism than anyone else who figures to play a lot in Milwaukee.”
Hughes presents some interesting arguments. The 2031 draft swap material is a little bit of a reach, but Connaughton would fit right in with the Bulls, and Dosunmu is one of the best players available right now.
Considering the latter, is there any way the Bulls might get Dosunmu for even more money in a different deal?
