“It’s really sad to see” – Jake Cooper gives verdict on Reading FC takeover situation
Jake Cooper of Millwall has made his assessment on Reading’s takeover circumstances.
The Royals were no longer in exclusive negotiations with a possible buyer for the League One team, as was announced on Wednesday night.
The Berkshire company had a letter of intent with a potential investor, but during the exclusivity period, no agreement could be reached.
Given the precarious financial situation that current majority stakeholder Dai Yongge has placed the club in, supporters are optimistic that a new owner can take over the team shortly.
The third-tier team’s 2023 Championship relegation was mostly caused by the EFL docking them points on several occasions in recent seasons for different financial rule violations.
Cooper, who went through the Reading academy system, finds the state his former club is in disappointing.
He has emphasized the value of having an involved owner, pointing to Millwall, his own club, as a model that other clubs should aspire to.
Cooper told SportsBoom.com, “It’s really sad to see what’s going on with the club.”
It has been difficult to watch my nephew in the academy there for the past year or two.
According to what I’ve read, there may be a buyer, so we’re hoping the team can find some stability and resume its upward trajectory toward becoming the major league that it is.
“Hopefully, they can find a new owner quickly and get this time.” at the club as soon as possible pushed under the rug.
