During the first transfer window after making an investment in the team, United minority owners INEOS, led by Sir Jim Ratcliffe, aim to make significant changes to the United roster.

Even though manager Erik ten Hag’s future is still up in the air, this summer’s additions to the team will benefit the team regardless of who occupies the dugout come opening day.

Since Raphael Varane left and players like Lisandro Martinez and Harry Maguire have struggled with injuries all season, defense has been a top priority.

Everton rookie Jarrad Branthwaite has emerged as United’s top target after making an impact in his first full season in the Premier League at the age of 21.

Naturally, Everton is unwilling to let the center back go, but the Liverpool Echo claims that the Toffees have set a £75 million price tag on him.

Given their history of heavy spending on defenders, it’s possible that United will choose to part with the cash to get Branthwaite.

The teenage player was unexpectedly left out of Gareth Southgate’s England team for Euro 2024, but United might decide to move on if he doesn’t play in the competition.

This is because the Football Association prohibits clubs, agents, and players from entering into transfer agreements while a player is abroad on international duty, hence United would not have been able to approach Everton or Branthwaite until after the Euros.

Executives at United are rumored to want to complete a deal for the 21-year-old before June 30 in order to concentrate on adding multiple players this summer to crucial positions.

Branthwaite has been playing with a groin issue that may shortly need minor surgery. Branthwaite made his senior England debut in the 3-0 victory against Bosnia & Herzegovina on Monday.

That isn’t likely to deter United, though, especially given that they may close a deal ahead of schedule during the transfer window.
