‘I’m excited for the future’: Reading FC midfielder reflects on first season

Reading FC | Ben Elliott signs on a permanent deal from Chelsea

Ben Elliott, a midfielder for Reading FC, evaluated his development as a player and looked back on a challenging season for the team.

Elliott, who came to the Royals last summer from Chelsea’s academy, maintains that, in spite of the club’s challenging off-field campaign, joining the Royals was “definitely” the right choice.

Elliott remarked, “As a player, I’ve matured. In academy football, everyone wants to play out from the back.”
“I’ve learned a lot, and here’s a reality check: everyone plays differently. As a player, I believe I’ve progressed, and I want to keep getting better and perform even better the following year.

You can tell that we are closer now because of everything we have had to overcome.

in the group that has supported us over the past few months.

“It was a challenging choice, but ultimately I made the right one to enter the men’s division. I’ve become a better player as a result of having to do it.

“We’ve had some difficult moments, but I’m optimistic about the future and think things are improving.

“The season has been quite demanding, with both highs and lows. It’s been a terrific experience, and I don’t think we could have as many challenges as we did this season, so I think everyone will have gained a lot of knowledge and be equipped for whatever comes up in their lives.

Elliott is hoping for greater things after surviving relegation from League One in the previous season and turning in some standout performances as a central midfielder at the conclusion of the campaign.

“It’s all been a good experience for me, and I’ll embrace it,” he said. I’ll play wherever the manager assigns me, and I’ll do my best to support the group.

Although I naturally feel more at ease in the midfield, a football player must be prepared to play wherever the manager assigns them.

“It was satisfying to return to form towards the end of the season. I’ll put in a lot of effort over the summer, get some good training in, and hopefully improve even more.”
