Caitlin Clark of the Indiana Fever has been blocking out the chatter as she prepares for a potential playoff run following the WNBA All-Star/Olympic break.
Heading into the second half of the season, the Fever (11-15) are now eighth in the league and just barely in postseason contention. Indiana faces a long and winding road to its first postseason participation since 2016, and Clark is determined to get the Fever there.
When asked if she would be interested in competing in the new Unrivalled 3×3 league, which begins in January, Clark told reporters that she is focused on the now, not the future. “Honestly I’m just focused on this right now,” Clark told me. “Do one thing at a time. It is not always possible to just move on to the next. My emphasis is right here.”
Breanna Stewart and Napheesa Collier founded Unrivalled, a women’s basketball league, with the goal of providing WNBA players with the option to play in the United States during the offseason. The six-team league will begin in January 2025 in Miami and last eight weeks. Several high-profile players, including Angel Reese, Paige Bueckers, Kelsey Plum, and Arike Ogunbowale, have already signed on for the inaugural season.
Clark, who has averaged 17.1 points and 8.2 assists in her rookie season, would be a huge addition to the newly formed women’s basketball league. However, the 22-year-old guard appears to have other priorities at the moment.
Clark and the Fever will play Diana Taurasi and the Phoenix Mercury in their first game back from the break on Friday, August 16.
