Derby County is making a comeback to the Championship following a two-year absence. However, things have moved slowly this summer transfer season.
While Corey Blackett-Taylor has joined the Rams permanently, none of their rumored summer transfer targets have yet to be added.
since a matter of fact, it appears that Paul Warne is losing out on Derby County transfer targets, since players like Josh Windass, a striker, is currently in negotiations with West Brom, and Viktor Johansson has joined Stoke City.
However, before the Rams take on Blackburn Rovers in their 2024–25 Championship opening on August 9, they still have time to manage a busy transfer window.
But, Warne won’t want to squander any more time. And it appears that Derby County is getting closer to their first fresh recruit during the summer transfer window.
Ben Osborn, a midfielder who is leaving Sheffield United, has been linked to a summer move to Pride Park, while Watford has also expressed interest.
However, Alan Nixon just disclosed that Osborn will be joining Derby County this summer on a free transfer.
Nixon continues, “Given his prior ties to local rivals Nottingham Forest, Osborn has no qualms about joining Derby County.”
Osborn is reportedly “undergoing a Derby County medical” on Thursday after “agreeing the terms of a deal,” according to Football Insider.
According to the same report, Osborn to Derby County will likely be finished “imminently.”
With 290 Championship appearances under his belt, the 29-year-old was chosen as Nottingham Forest’s Player of the Season for the 2017–18 Championship campaign.
In that time, he has also contributed 19 goals and 33 assists while operating as a more central or left-sided midfielder.
Paul Warne will love one thing about Ben Osborn at Derby County
Osborn gives a Rams team that lacks the star power to give them a realistic shot at winning the Championship the next season variety and Premier League caliber.
The thing that Warne might like Osborn the most, though, is his Championship background. In addition to having made almost 300 appearances in the second division, Osborn has also been promoted with Sheffield United.
Even if the Rams might not be trying to finish in the top six the next season, Osborn’s promotion experience will provide Warne with a player who understands what it takes to be successful in the lower division.
Furthermore, he has previously impressed with Forest in the Championship; Osborn scored four goals in that 2017–18 Player of the Season campaign.
and, primarily from the left side of midfield, manage five assists in 46 league games.
Osborn is a solid addition to Derby County’s summer roster, and the Rams would benefit greatly from a couple more players of his caliber in the league the following year.
