Lions QB Jared Goff agrees to terms on four-year, $212 million extension

After calling it a “high priority,” Detroit Lions general manager Brad Holmes completed the Jared Goff trade less than a week later.

NFL Network Insider Tom Pelissero said on Monday that Goff and the Lions had reached an agreement on a four-year, $212 million contract with a $170 million guarantee, citing sources. Pelissero said that the new contract has an option for 2028 and ties him to Detroit through 2027.

With his new contract worth $53 million annually, Goff shoots to the top of the wage charts, trailing only Cincinnati’s Joe Burrow in terms of average yearly pay. Additionally, it brings Detroit’s off-season extension expenditure above $110 million, capping a trio of noteworthy agreements to retain three key players: quarterback Goff, wide receiver Amon-Ra St. Brown, and offensive lineman

tackle Penei Sewell — for years to come with the team that Holmes built.
It seemed evident for some time that Goff would extend his contract. In 2024, he placed among the top four in passing yards (4,575) and passing touchdowns (30). With these accomplishments, he led the Lions offense, which finished third in yards per game and helped Detroit win two playoff games, advance to the NFC Championship Game, and win its first division title in thirty years.

 

Put plainly, Detroit prospered under Goff’s leadership. Paying him appropriately was the only thing left to do. Together, they have both recaptured their trajectories, revitalizing Goff’s career and making the Lions a true winner. They are therefore kindred souls and collaborators as well.

Additionally, they are joined at the hip for the the ensuing years. If all goes according to plan, it will be the continuation of an earlier, incredibly lovely collaboration.
