Zech McPhearson was sidelined for the whole 2023 season due to an Achilles rupture. Nevertheless, the fourth-year
Eagles corner has recovered well from the injury, and he ought to be ready for training camp to begin in July.
This most recent news is not surprising, since McPhearson stated in April that he was on schedule to suit up for the
start of the regular season. However, the Eagles secondary, which struggled the previous season and has seen a lot of
new signings, would appreciate a return to full health. McPhearson’s return will also help Philadelphia’s special
teams.
The 26-year-old added, “I’m 100 percent, man,” according to Andrew DiCecco of Inside the Birds. “I’m simply happy
to be back. I feel fantastic, and my body feels good.
I simply want to compete outside. I had a lot of tension inside of me. My shoulder is a chip off at me. Even if there is
a lot going on outside, I tune it all out.
Due to his recovery, McPhearson was unable to participate in OTAs or minicamp; however, attending training camp
will prepare him for a return to play in the autumn. The former fourth-round pick appeared in 33 regular season
games over his first two seasons with the Eagles and participated in four postseason games. During that time, he only
played a rotating defensive role, but in 2024, he might be a reliable slot cornerback choice behind returnee Avonte
Maddox. Although the Eagles have used McPhearson as a backup on the perimeter,
two rookies who can fill that role: Cooper DeJean and Quinyon Mitchell.
McPhearson’s rookie deal has one year left on it, and a strong season would undoubtedly boost his free agent
prospects. The Texas Tech product’s health will be interesting to follow once training camp gets underway, but if
everything goes as planned, he should be able to play for the entire season after missing a year due to injury.
