After winning their third Super Bowl in five years, the Kansas City Chiefs had a very exciting offseason. Now, the front office is putting the finishing touches on the roster as they prepare to attempt the NFL’s first-ever three-peat.
Prior to training camp, the organisation revealed three roster changes in an effort to strengthen this offence, which centres on Patrick Mahomes.
The Chiefs recently declared three roster changes: running back Clyde Edwards-Helaire has been activated, tight end Gerrit Prince has been released, and tight end Izaiah Gathings has been signed.
After being removed from the practice squad by the Chiefs last summer because of a foot injury, Prince was last spotted in training camp wearing a walking boot before being cut loose.
Gathings played in three Chiefs preseason games the previous year before being placed on the practice squad, released barely two months earlier, and failing to make the final 53-man roster.
With so much tight end depth on the roster already behind Travis Kelce, he will have an uphill struggle to make the final roster once more.
After being selected in the first round out of LSU in 2020, Edwards-Helaire has watched his workload decline every year. Although he had a career-low 3.2 yards per carry last season, he will return to Kansas City for his fifth season as Isiah Pacheco’s backup.
Despite not being selected for his fifth-year option this offseason, CEH has returned on a one-year contract.
