Although many Rams fans wanted manager Paul Warne fired after the team had a dismal start to the season, the Rams had a strong second half of the season and finished second behind Portsmouth, the defending champions.

A number of veteran players, including Joe Wildsmith, Scott Loach, Conor Hourihane, Korey Smith, Martyn Waghorn, and Dwight Gayle, have departed the team at the conclusion of their contracts, so Warne may have a busy few months ahead of him as he attempts to bolster his squad for the Championship.

Derby County urged to sign Josh Sheehan and Ebou Adams this summer

Derby will need to add more players this summer because of those losses, and James Collins and Louie Sibley are also in talks with the team regarding their futures.

Derby County is asked to finish the two-for-one.

Shaun Woodward, a Derby County fan for FLW, thinks the team should recruit Josh Sheehan of Bolton Wanderers and Ebou Adams of Cardiff City this summer.

Sheehan played 53 games for Bolton in all competitions this season, recording four goals and 14 assists. Although the Trotters lost to Oxford United in the play-off final, which prevented them from winning promotion, this does not take away from Sheehan’s outstanding individual season.

In addition to winning Bolton’s Player of the Season title, the 29-year-old was given further credit for his efforts when, earlier this month, in just his sixth international match for Wales, he was given the captain’s armband against Gibraltar.

Adams, who made 17 games for the Rams on loan from Cardiff City, was instrumental in the team’s promotion. He finished with one goal and one assist.

After a good loan spell, Adams is eager to sign with Derby permanently. Although a deal has not yet been finalised, Shaun would like to see the 28-year-old and Sheehan arrive at Pride Park this summer.

This summer, Derby County has to prioritise adding more midfield players.

The only senior midfielders Derby presently has on their roster are Tyrese Fornah and Liam Thompson, the latter of whom fell out of favour during the second half of the season, indicating a definite need for strengthening in this position.

Sheehan and Adams would be great additions for the Rams, who need to bolster their roster with younger, more imaginative players, as Shaun points out.

Sheehan has emerged as one of League One’s top midfield players in recent years, and while he could easily transition to the Championship, Bolton will be hesitant to lose him as they get ready to battle for promotion once more the following year.

Adams’ permanent return to Pride Park this summer appears certain, and Derby will be hoping to finalise a deal; nevertheless, he cannot be the club’s only midfield signing.
