On Monday, the Minnesota Vikings began their organized team activities (OTAs), and all those there could sense the excitement building for the upcoming season. J. J. McCarthy needs a new quarterback to take charge of the offense, and he must be present in the building early and frequently during practices to begin developing a rapport with his wide receivers, particularly Justin Jefferson, who is the group leader.

However, there is a minor issue. Everyone may sense the arrival of a new season as well as the disappearance of their favorite wideout. Adam Schefter of ESPN reports that Jefferson was not present at the team’s training facility when organized team exercises began, and that his contract status is thought to be the reason.

The former LSU standout is about to reach the last year of his rookie contract. He has a $19.7 million option still on it, and he naturally wants to lock down a future in Minnesota.

The receiver and the Vikings had been in talks about a new contract extension; nevertheless, he decided to send a message expressing his dissatisfaction with the talks due to a lack of progress.

For the rest of May, Minnesota has six days of scheduled OTAs; however, June has something else planned. As the team activities are optional, players are free to skip them without facing any consequences, even if there are resentment from other members of the organization toward those who don’t show up.

However, Justin Jefferson will be punished if he does not show up for the minicamp, which is scheduled from June 4th to June 6th. Although things have been stressful in Minnesota lately, the head coach at least seems optimistic.

Speaking with Kay Adams on her program Up & Adams, Kevin O’Connell gave his assurance on the subject. “I’m confident that everything will be resolved there. Justin is aware of my affection and appreciation for him as well as how important he is to all we accomplish here.”
