Jason Ryles emerged victorious in the competition to become the Parramatta NRL coach. The Melbourne assistant will take a four-year contract offer from the Eels.

On Monday morning, after last week’s board meeting, Parramatta made the long-awaited announcement to replace Brad Arthur.

With his hiring, Ryles has defeated Josh Hannay to take the position; Trent Barrett, the interim coach, and Dean Young were the other front-runners.

The former St George Illawarra prop, who spent the last few seasons lagging behind Craig Bellamy at the Melbourne Storm, had long been seen as an NRL coach in waiting.

“We are thrilled to have Jason join the Parramatta Eels,” stated Sean McElduff, chairman of the team.

“Jason’s passion for nurturing young talent and his track record of success in winning environments are a perfect fit for the direction our club is taking.”

We have a talented bunch of young players coming through our pathways programs, and we have a good NRL roster.

‘We believe Jason is the ideal person to build a strong connection within the playing group, across the club and with the passionate Parramatta Eels fanbase.
