Buccaneers’ rising star carted off field with apparent leg injury at training camp
YaYa Diaby was taken off the field during training camp due to what seemed to be a leg injury, raising
the possibility that the Tampa Bay Buccaneers may be without one of its budding talents. Ian Rapopor
reports that head coach Todd Bowles is unsure of the extent of the edge rusher’s injury, who fell down
during a practice on Thursday.
During the drill, Diaby’s ankle was rolled up by Vita Vea, and Bowles is hoping that the second-year
player escaped with minor damage.
“It’s football, we’ll wait for the results to come in,” Bowles said to the media after practice. “We’re
hopeful, so we’ll wait and see before we say all was lost right now. He’s been having a great camp, he’s a
great player, and just wish the best for him.”
As of now, signs are pointing to some good news for the edge rusher. There is some optimism that
Diaby didn’t suffer a major injury, and that he was able to move his ankle and put pressure on it, noting
that it wasn’t a scary situation, according to Bucs reporter JC Allen.
“YaYa Diaby’s ankle X-rays were normal,” Bucs reporter Ric Stroud stated on X, the defunct Twitter
platform. “The Bucs are hopeful and hoping he avoided serious injury when he tangled with Vita Vea,
but he will undergo an MRI later today.”
YaYa Diaby has been a rising star for the Tampa Bay Buccaneers
Louisville native YaYa Diaby was chosen in the third round of the 2023 NFL Draft. During his first
campaign with the Buccaneers, he caught a lot of attention. He started seven games, totaling 38 tackles
, 12 tackles for loss, and a team-high 7.5 sacks. Although Diaby had a poor start to the season in the first
few games, his greatest contributions came in the later stages.
