Sealed: Lincoln City announce the arrival of an experience defender….

The 26-year-old’s playing time has been restricted to just nine games over the last two seasons due to two ACL injuries he sustained in recent seasons. But Montsma has now committed to a six-month contract that will keep him at Lincoln City.

A Six-Month Deal:

This summer, Montsma’s contract expired following his four years with the team. The Dutchman signed with the Imps in 2020, and in his first two EFL seasons, he established himself as a regular member of the squad.

The center-back made 19 appearances in the 2021–2022 season after playing 40 in his rookie season. After that, he suffered his first ACL injury and appeared in just nine games the next season.

An ACL injury that returned soon after put an end to his comeback, keeping him out of action for the whole 2023–2024 season.

After stints at many clubs in his native Netherlands, Montsma joined Lincoln. Before joining FC Dordrecht in 2018, he was a player for the youth teams of Heerenveen and SC Cambuur.

Lincoln City Needed Another Defensive Option

Lincoln City’s defense suffered a hole when Millwall loanee Alex Mitchell returned to his parent club and former Tottenham Hotspurs youth product TJ Eyoma was released.

With its latest declaration, the club closes that gap for a period of six months. When the SkyBet League One season begins in August, Montsma will probably play a role as his recuperation nears completion.

Now or Never for Montsma – Opinion:

Lewis Montsma’s journey to recovery has not been easy. A football player’s career may suffer greatly from with one ACL damage, let alone two, but the defender has persevered through numerous setbacks. That is a credit to his work ethic, resolve, and the dedication of Lincoln City’s physio crew.

But now is the Dutchman’s moment to shine. If he hopes to find a new team or prolong his stay in Lincolnshire, he must remain in good shape and perform well when the 2024–2025 season begins.
