Following their worst start to a league season under Xisco Munoz, the team was bottom of the Championship when the 35-year-old German took over at Hillsborough in October.
With four victories in their final six games, they finished three points clear of the relegation zone under Rohl direction, demonstrating a remarkable turnaround in their play.
“I’m thrilled to be extending my Sheffield Wednesday contract. He told the club website, “This is a fantastic club that has taken me to heart and I feel exactly the same way.”
“I want to express my gratitude to the chairman for this opportunity. We are now eagerly anticipating the upcoming season and can make plans together.”
Rohl, who resigned as assistant manager of Germany
took over in South Yorkshire in September, making him the EFL’s youngest manager.
Before beginning his coaching career, he had also worked for Bayern Munich, Southampton, and RB Leipzig.
When Rohl arrived, Wednesday was seven points outside of safety. After losing his first two games, that deficit widened to eleven points, with the Owls having only collected three points from their first 13 games.
Their winning streak came to an end on October 25 when they defeated Rotherham, but their chances of surviving looked remote when they did not win again until December 2.
They increased their prospects of staying in the league by winning four straight games in February and March, but they only managed one victory in their following seven games.
But Wednesday’s last home game of the season saw them overcome West Brom 3-0 after winning 3-1 at Blackburn, lifting them out of the relegation zone for the first time
since August.
This meant that on the last day, they would have needed just a point to survive, and they pulled off a fantastic escape by winning 2-0 against Sunderland.
